Volunteers
NEW Opportunities! Email Katrina at katrina@kawakon.com to volunteer for any of these positions. Cosplay Cafe Staff- We need a few cosplayers to run the Cosplay Cafe, which will be open in the dealers room during that room's hours. Cosplay Cafe staff will, of course, be required to look cute while serving cookies, bottled drinks, marshmallows with faces, and other snacks. Masquerade Stage Ninja- Doing this will get you ALL of your volunteer jobs in one swoop! Stage Ninja are the men (and women) in black who keep the masquerade running by helping entrants on and off stage, moving props, and making sure the show goes on when something goes wrong. Stage Ninja work on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and then again from 6 p.m. until the masquerade ends (between 9 and 10 p.m.). Host Party Host- We need a group of fun-loving, good-looking people to play hosts at the Host Party. The party will take place from 8:30-10:30 p.m. on Friday and will count as two volunteer hours for whoever does it. All hosts must be 16 or older and will have to serve tea during the party. We'd prefer Ouran characters, but we may accept some characters from other shows. Cross-players are allowed. If you want an extra volunteer hour, you may also volunteer to do setup for the Host Party, which will involve putting up decorations and making tea. "Whose Line" Actors- We need a core group of four actors who are good at improv to lead "Whose Line". Jon, the person in charge of the game show, will schedule an interview with each of you. "Whose Line" will get you three volunteer hours. A/V Assistant- During the masquerade we need an assistant to run video and help keep the audio in order. You must have prior experience running A/V to do this job. It will get you ALL of your volunteer hours, but you will need to work both during the morning tech rehearsals on Saturday (9 a.m.-12 p.m.) and the masquerade itself (6 p.m.-9 or 10 p.m.).
Volunteers who work 6 hours or more during the convention get a free weekend pass. Registering as a volunteer is easy! All you have to do is fill out the volunteer form and mail it in to our Volunteer Chair. Then pick up your badge at the volunteer table near Registration at least an hour before your first shift or by 9:00 Friday night (whichever comes first). Volunteer forms are available for download here. Forms must be postmarked by February 1, or they will not be accepted. Panels count as one hour each. Fill out both the panelist and volunteer forms if you plan on doing both. Any volunteer who does not show up for one of his/her shifts will have his/her badge confiscated and will be forced to either buy a regular badge or leave the convention. There are so many ways to volunteer! Check out some of them below: Anime Room- Makes sure the videos play from the hard drive in the Anime Room. Checks room to make sure equipment is safe. Checks badges and IDs (for 18+ shows) at the door. Video Game Room- Watches gaming equipment. Checks badges at the door. Helps run tournaments with staff. Runs board game checkout table. Registration/Info- Hands out badges at registration. Checks in volunteers. Answers questions about events, locations, and hours. Helps with anything that needs done around the registration area. May be sent to find other staff members. Events- Sets up chairs before events. Cleans up event rooms before and after events. Helps set up tables and set the stage. Acts as usher or crowd control at events. Helps events run smoothly. Security (must be 21 or over)- Patrols hallways for rule infractions or dangerous situations. Alerts proper authorities or staff members of dangerous situations. Acts as crowd control in hallways and at events. Keeps the convention area safe and secure for convention attendees. There are also a few "special" jobs for which we need a few talented people. These include actors, DJs, cosplayers, stage crew, strong men (and women) for loading and unloading, and, before the convention, builders for some hardware-type projects. If you are interested in any of these jobs, please email our Volunteer Chair Mikhail Lynn at achenar_leonov@yahoo.com before filling out your volunteer form. |
