Cosplay Contest

Check out our Masquerade page for more information on our cosplay contest!

Hall Cosplay Awards- This year, we want to reward neat hall cosplays as well as the costumes brought on stage during the masquerade.  Members of the St. Louis Costumers Guild and some staff members will be walking the hallways with badge ribbons for costumes they are especially impressed by.

Theme Contest- As part of this year's masquerade, we're giving away a special prize to the cosplay that best reflects our convention's theme.  You can take that theme in any direction you want.  After the skits in the masquerade are over, anyone who wishes to participate will be called up to the stage.  You will get a moment to explain your costume to the audience.  Then, when the rest of the awards are announced, we'll announce the winner of a themed prize.

Bishounen Date Auction

Bid on your favorite bishounen from different shows or bands and win a dinner date with your prize!  Keep in mind that you are bidding REAL MONEY, but all funds from the Bishounen Date Auction will go toward bringing you bigger and better guests for 2010.

As we've done in the past, we are allowing ladies to enter as bishounen as long as they submit pictures of themselves cross-playing convincingly. This follows a great Japanese tradition of women dressing up as men that goes back to kabuki and still exists today, both at conventions and in the Takarazuka Theatre, where the women who dress as men are admired by other women all across Japan.

Register as a bishounen with this (antiquated) form.

Even WORSE Video Game Tournament

You've heard about these games for a long time.  You may even have played them (heaven forbid!).  Now go head-to-head with other gamers while you try to win, play, or simply get past the first level of the worst video games in existence!  Snarky commentary will be provided.

Musical Guest Concert

The Spoony Bards will be performing at least twice during the convention. Check back for times and details.

Dance Parties

Friday Night Dance Party-  Marshmallow Mixer- An early evening dance to your favorite familiar dance tunes. Line dances, cheesy love songs, and requests galore! The Spoony Bards may open for this dance.

Saturday Night Dance Party-  Mechno Techno Party- Party into the night with this post-masquerade anime, video game, and techno fest. Bring your glow sticks and dress to impress!

The Return of the Match Game

The Match Game returns for another round of fill-in-the-blank hilarity. Want to be part of the show? Come early and show some excitement! You may just get picked to be a contestant.

Opening/Closing Ceremonies

The opening ceremonies are a chance for fans to meet each other at the beginning of the convention.  We will show an amusing video and introduce you to the guests.

Closing ceremonies will feature trivia with GREAT PRIZES!

Midnight Anime Roast

Roast both marshmallows and anime at a midnight party of mecha proportions! More information on this awesome event is coming soon.

Iron Mech

Do you think you have what it takes to build a mech? What if you had to do it in just an hour? What if you had to do it in just an hour only using cardboard tubes, boxes, old CDs, streamers, and a variety of other pieces of "junk"? If you think you're the man (or woman) for the job, put together a team and join Iron Mech, the mech building contest that turns one man's trash into another man's doom machine.

Information on registering is coming soon. Registration is limited, so keep checking back for information.

Marshmallow Mechs

Relax on Sunday afternoon with this activity that will take you back to kindergarten. Make (and eat) mechs made from marshmallows, toothpicks, and candy while you watch AMVs cut from your favorite mech shows.

Host Party

Join the host club on Friday as they pamper you with food and fanservice! If you are interested in being a host for the party, email Katrina at katrina@kawakon.com.

Akatsuki Recruitment Camp

The Awesome Anime Club of St. Charles presents the Akatsuki Recruitment Camp! This four-hour Sunday event will turn 39 Akatsuki hopefuls into new recruits STAT! If you think you have the... er... stuff it takes to join the baddest ninja of all time, sign up at the Akatsuki Recruitment Desk near registration starting Friday night.

Yaoi Par-Tay!

A late-night (18+) party for fans of Boys' Love, including ecchi Mad Libs, hot bishies, games, and prizes sponsored by Yaoi Press!

Jeopardy Jam with the Spoony Bards

The Spoony Bards host a rollicking musical game of Jeopardy featuring Name That Tune! Don't miss this awesome new event on Friday night before the Marshmallow Mixer dance.

Kenjutsu with Mikhail-sensei

Mikhail Lynn returns for the third time to teach basic Japanese swordsmanship. He'll teach you the proper techniques for drawing and sheathing, basic stances and slashes, and a little about the history of the samurai. This class is interactive, so you may get to participate yourself!
